High Rise Flats Demolition
As part of a three-year contract with Renfrewshire Council, Hunter Demolition carried out asbestos removal and demolished high-rise blocks of flats in Linwood.
The project was part of the Council’s Renfrewshire Regeneration scheme and our work involved the demolition of various types of redundant housing stock throughout the Paisley district. In the Linwood part of the project, the flats were five-storey blocks and required the use of high reach excavators.
The construction was brick cavity wall with pre-cast concrete floors and timber pitched roofs. Some of the blocks had slab foundations; others had mass concrete foundations some two metres thick, all of which had to be removed.
There was also asbestos present throughout the buildings which was removed and safely disposed of.
Not all the blocks were vacant from the outset of the project. That meant that we had to isolate services in each block as we worked on it, but had to ensure that there was no disruption to services in the adjacent occupied blocks.
It also meant that our work was limited at weekends and during the times of the school run. And, all in all, everything possible was done to ensure that we remained good neighbours with the neighbours.
